Regular Council Meeting Highlights: January 9, 2012

The City of Lacombe is now posting the highlights of Regular Council and Committee Meetings to our social media channels, in keeping with our mandate to serving the community with open communication and with accountability in mind.


Recreation, Parks and Culture

Recreation Board
City Council gave first and second readings to Bylaw 46.8 – a Bylaw to establish the Lacombe and District Recreation, Parks and Culture Board – as amended.

The bylaw will be presented at the January 23 Regular Council Meeting for third reading.

Land Use Planning and Land Development

Residential Land Development (REHDI)
Council unanimously passed a resolution to terminate the REHDI land development agreement with the Canadian University College.

Streets and Roads

Stormline Alignment Options
Council passed a resolution directing Administration to complete the design for the 45th Street Stormline Project using traditional replacement methods.

Using traditional methods for this project will result in substantial savings (over trenchless technology) that can be applied to other infrastructure rehabilitation, and replaces aging roadway infrastructure with new materials.

Environmental Health Services and Utilities

Water/Wastewater
Council gave first and second readings to Bylaw 70 - A bylaw of the City of Lacombe providing for the supply of water and waste water services to the residents and consumers of the city – and passed a resolution to adopt the proposed policy amendments to the bylaw. The bylaw policy amendments will allow, in conjunction with major capital infrastructure programs, replacement or repair to sanitary service lines that are subject to root intrusion by nearby municipally-owned trees.

The bylaw will be presented at the January 23 Regular Council Meeting for third reading.
 
Council and Legislative

Inter-City Forum on Social Policy
Council appointed Councillor Outi Kite to sit on the Inter City Forum on Social Policy. a provincial forum that meets at least twice per year.

The Forum acts as a vehicle for information sharing, networking and advocacy among Alberta cities and other major urban areas, and the people who live in them, in an intergovernmental context. Its purpose is to address social policy, program and service issues that are of concern to Alberta Urban municipalities. Meetings alternate between Leduc and Airdrie. There are currently 19 municipalities that participate in the forum. Membership is limited to one member of municipal council and one senior staff person.

Land Use Planning and Land Development

Heart of Town Area Redevelopment Plan
Council appointed nine members to the Downtown Area Redevelopment Plan Advisory Committee. This new committee will commence meeting immediately, with the expected project completion date in June 2012. The members of the committee include:

Ambulance
Lacombe Municipal Ambulance Service
Council passed a resolution to approve the 2012 Lacombe Municipal Ambulance Services Capital and Operating budgets as presented.
