City requests Facilities Capital Funding from County

(excerpted from the Lacombe County Council Highlights: January 26, 2012)

City of Lacombe – Facilities Capital Funding Request
Mr. Timmons (Manager of Corporate Services) advised that correspondence has been received from the City of Lacombe outlining the capital projects proposed for 2012 by the City. The City is requesting funding to assist with these projects. Lacombe County has previously approved funding for two of the proposed projects: 1) pre-emptive lights at Highway 2A for the fire department, and 2) phase one of the northwest recreation area.  However, as the costs of both of these projects are higher than originally projected the City is requesting that the County consider providing additional funding.

The other three projects are 1) surveying future grave sites at the Fairview Cemetery, 2) upgrading and replacing the sound system at the arena, and 3) purchasing a portable sound system for the Lacombe Memorial Centre.  These are new projects and the City is requesting that the County contribute funding towards them. A lengthy discussion followed Mr. Timmons’s presentation.

Council directed that Lacombe County provide an additional $5,909 to the City of Lacombe to assist with the increased costs of installing the pre-emptive lights for the Lacombe Fire Department, and that this contribution be funded from the County’s Protective Services reserve.

Council postponed a decision until further information is received from administration concerning the request of an additional $75,758.62 to the City of Lacombe to assist with the increased costs of constructing phase 1 of the north west recreation area. Council also directed that Lacombe County provide 1) $14,650 to the City of Lacombe for the upgrading and replacement of the arena sound system, and that this contribution be funded from the County’s Recreation Capital Assistance reserve, 2) provide $4,000 to the City of Lacombe for land survey work at the Fairview Cemetery, and that this contribution be funded from the County’s Cemetery Development reserve, and 3) $3,125 to the City of Lacombe for a portable sound system at the Lacombe Memorial Centre, and that this contribution be funded from the County’s Recreation Capital Assistance reserve.
