Development Officer II
(Permanent, Full-Time)


The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Development Services, this position is responsible for the timely delivery of development permit approval, permit tracking and compliance monitoring; ensuring an efficient and effective workflow for permit processes and other related customer services.  Prepare agendas; provide advice &recommendations for discretionary use permits and attend all meetings of the Municipal Planning Commission. Provide public notification of all decisions, as well as, attend the Subdivision & Development Appeal Board hearing meetings as required.

The Ideal Candidate:
You are a demonstrated leader, you have the ability to problem solve and develop creative solutions to improve customer service and data management. You are a collaborator and work to contribute in a team environment. Also, you possess a maturity, wisdom and intuitiveness that will build rapport.
Preferred Qualifications:
·    Bachelor’s degree in a related field  
·    5 years related municipal experience
·    Applied Land Use Planning Certificate
·    Member of or eligible for membership in the Alberta Development Officer’s Association, Safety Codes Designation of Powers Certification
·    Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license
·    Equivalencies may be considered

From Friday September 30, 2011, to Sunday, October 2, 2011, the Alberta Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) and Wal-Mart Canada will team-up to hold a major fundraising event in support of Special Olympics Alberta.

Everyone is encouraged to help to Free the Fuzz and support the Special Olympics by stopping by the South Wal-Mart to make a donation, or by purchasing a hotdog or pop at the weekend event.

Stop by and meet Special Olympics athletes, hear their stories and encourage them as they set off for the Provincial Games.

Purchase a LETR T-shirt, water bottle or pen, with all proceeds going to Special Olympics.

City of Lacombe 1st Anniversary Celebration

Lacombe is celebrating its first anniversary as a city with a new brand identity and a free, music-filled and family friendly event on Saturday, September 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park behind City Hall, 5432-56 Avenue.

“This is an important milestone for the City of Lacombe,” said Chief Administrative Office Norma MacQuarrie. “It allows us to get together as a community to celebrate our past successes, and to look ahead to a brighter future.”

The day’s many fun-filled offerings include bouncy castles; an interactive magic show; face painting and balloon animals; old-time fair games like three-legged and potato sack races; an exotic animal display set up by the Edmonton Zoo, as well as a police cruiser with a police dog.

“We’re also excited to have three high-calibre area bands perform live on stage; Tap 9, The Smokes and the Boom Chaka Boys,” said Kelsey Van Grinsven. “I encourage everyone to bring their lawn chairs and picnic blankets on Saturday and enjoy the great music.”

A dunk tank will be set up, and participants can try to dunk Police Chief Gary Leslie and others.
Fair food vendors will be on-site, along with the Froster Street Team, who will hand out free slurpees to everyone. There also will be free birthday cake and swag for all.

Portraits of Honour tour comes to Lacombe

On September 18, 2011 the “Portraits of Honour Tour” display will be in Lacombe at the Lacombe Arena.  Also in attendance will be the Canadian Armed Forces from Red Deer along with 300 Cadets from Hobbema and Ponoka, as well as members from the Central Alberta Legions.

To honour the event the Canadian Military, Cadets and Royal Canadian Legion Members will meet at the LMC parking lot, and at 12:15 pm they will march from the LMC to the Lacombe Arena down 52nd Street.

There will be several guest speakers at the arena and the Lacombe Kinsmen will be cooking hot dogs.  The event goes till 5 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and help honour the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.
