Lacombe participated in the “ Communities ChooseWell Challenge” campaign this year and won the High Achiever Award for Reducing Barriers to Healthy Living for Teens and Tweens.

“I was very impressed by the way the community pulled together," said Sandi Stewart, Recreation & Culture Manager for the City.

The campaign promotes eating healthy and being active through a variety of means and bringing more awareness to the community. Throughout the year there was a lot done to promote healthy eating and being active, especially aimed towards the Teens and Tweens.

Some of the things Lacombe can Be proud of include the building of a skatepark, construction of two accessible playgrounds, a youth street festival, and Dylan Olsen, our youth representative, attended an Active Youth Conference.

A big thanks goes out to those who helped with the various activities and construction in the City that took place during the campaign. There was also the “Sobey’s 21 day to healthy eating challenge” that challenged families to sit down and eat one healthy meal together every day for 21 days.

Next year we hope to get more families involved in the challenge as there are many benefits for children, like spending the quality time with the family building emotional connections, and it will help teach them healthy behaviours that they can take with them for the rest of their lives. We are proud of the award Lacombe received and can’t wait to do it all over again next year with our Community.
